College Room & Board
College Room and Board is generally the second highest expense, behind tuition, for college students. The term “room and board” usually includes lodging, food and “living” expenses.
On-Campus Room & Board
Room and board on-campus usually refers to costs associated with living in the college dorms and purchasing on-campus meal plans.
Off-Campus Room & Board
Room and board off-campus usually refers to costs associated with renting a college apartment, paying living expenses such as utility bills and food for the academic year.
Estimating Room & Board Expenses
Your school should publish an estimate of room and board charges for the average student. This figure is important because you will likely only receive enough financial aid to cover the room and board figure estimated by your school. If your room and board charges are significantly more expensive, you may need to speak to your school’s financial aid office and provide justification for the additional expenses.
